A Better Way Coalition is an
advocate for change. In order to move from a
death-denying to a life-affirming culture, it is
important for people to have access to knowledge and
resources about end-of-life care. This is particularly
true for people who work in the wide variety of medical,
in-home, long-term or hospice settings. Everyone has a
role and can promote compassionate end-of-life care in
Idaho. In support of professional caregivers the
Coalition:
-
Compiles and makes available
information on member, community and State
end-of-life needs.
-
Fosters opportunities for
professional dialogue on end-of-life issues,
including a discussion board for Coalition members
and electronic distribution list for information
sharing.
-
Sponsors and maintains a Website that
centralizes information on training and professional
development opportunities, increases access to Idaho
resources, and links users to national and
international information on end-of-life issues.
-
Facilitates palliative end-of-life
training for professionals.
-
Posts a
Resource and Speakers
Bureau.
-
Encourages and supports local
end-of-life coalition building throughout Idaho.
-
Convenes ad hoc committees to
research key end-of-life issues, such as advance
care planning or pain management, and produces
publications on key issues in Idaho including
existing laws, common practices, and the ‘gold
standard of care.’
-
Sponsors The Right Choice
program that provides up-to-date Idaho advance
directive forms and materials to assist people in
advance-care planning.
-
Circulates news releases and other
media promotion to stimulate awareness of
end-of-life issues and the valuable role of
professionals in end-of-life care.
-
Educates on legislative bills and
relevant policy matters.
-
Describes to the potential workforce
the value and rewards of working within the
end-of-life practice area.
-
Encourages professional membership
and participation in end-of-life coalition
activities.
