A Better Way Coalition, Inc.
Receives Funding for The Right
Choice at the Right Time Community
Engagement Campaign
!

A Better Way Coalition, Inc. announces receipt of a grant from the Laura Moore Cunningham Foundation, Inc. in support of The Right Choice at the Right Time Community Engagement Campaign. President, Harry L. Bettis expressed these thoughts in the award letter: “We evaluated many proposals and decided to support the positive impact your organization is making in our great state. Keep up the good work!” The grant, together with gifts from Saint Alphonsus, St. Luke’s and a local business brings $9,000 to fund the development and production of The Right Choice at the Right Time publication. It will to be offered to all Idaho libraries and Area Agencies on Aging in celebration of November – National Family Care Giver and National Hospice Month. With campaign partner the Idaho State Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, regional educational events will also be offered for professionals and the public as part of the community engagement campaign.

The campaign publication will contain material on Conversations Before the Crisis from the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. Photographs and stories are used as an effective tool to encourage people to start conversations about wishes for care at the end of life. Information and “FAQs” about advance care planning is the centerpiece of the publication with a living will and durable power of attorney for health care document and forms to register it in the Idaho Health Care Directives Registry. Information about the new Idaho Do Not Resuscitate program – the POST (Physician’s Orders for Scope of Treatment) will also be included. “Hospice Care – Medicare’s Best Kept Secret!” will provide key information about hospice and this important benefit (only 43% of respondents in the Idaho statewide end-of-life survey knew of this benefit.)

Other organizations and individuals that want to join the community engagement campaign with a financial gift or in-kind services should contact Cheryl Simpson-Whitaker at cksw46@msn.com or 208-794-1479.
